What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is a CaHA (calcium hydroxylapatite) collagen booster that adds volume the moment it is injected and, at the same time, prompts the skin to make new collagen over the weeks and months that follow. Its distinctive feature is that it offers both an immediate 'filled' result and a gradual, build-from-within change. It suits those who want to care for firmness and texture over the long term. Radiesse is like setting up a support post that braces a hollow right away, while also scattering fertilizer at the same spot. At first the post holds the shape immediately; over time the skin grows its own collagen and firms up from within.
Who it may be considered for
Radiesse may be considered in the following situations.
- Skin firmness has decreased and overall skin sagging is a concern
- The skin feels thinner and less resilient
- Both fine lines and skin texture are to be improved
- The aim is to induce collagen production in the skin for gradual improvement in firmness and skin quality
- Depending on the treatment area, natural improvement in contour and support is also desired
- A natural change in which the skin itself becomes firmer is preferred over a filled-out look
The medical team judges suitability and the treatment area and method individually after assessing skin thickness and the degree of firmness loss, as well as volume and contour. Treatment may be restricted during pregnancy or breastfeeding or when there is active infection or inflammation in the treatment area; please inform the medical team before treatment if you have a bleeding disorder or are taking anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, or other medication that can affect bleeding.
What happens at the visit
1) Consultation & diagnosis: a doctor reviews the skin condition (which may include a skin diagnosis such as Markvu), medical history, and any contraindications, then plans the injection sites and volume.
2) Cleansing & numbing: after cleansing, topical anesthetic may be applied for comfort.
3) Injection: CaHA is placed evenly into the appropriate dermal-to-subcutaneous layer via fine needle or cannula across multiple points (injecting across several points helps the product distribute evenly).
4) Finish: the treated area is cleaned and soothing recovery care may be applied. The actual injection takes about 25 minutes and is generally short; home-care guidance and precautions (including what to be careful of right after treatment) are provided before leaving.
Safety and aftercare
Radiesse is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Treatment may be restricted if you have a bleeding disorder, a history of severe allergy or anaphylaxis, or an allergy or hypersensitivity to the components of Radiesse. If there is active infection or inflammation in the treatment area, treatment is performed after full recovery, and please also inform the medical team before treatment if you are taking anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, or other medication that can affect bleeding.
After treatment, redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, or firmness at the injection sites may occur, and in most cases these gradually settle over time. Rarely, nodules or palpable lumps may develop at the injection sites, so if a firm area persists or grows, medical assessment is required.
Immediately after treatment, do not rub or massage the injection sites vigorously on your own. With Radiesse, massage to distribute the product evenly may be recommended depending on the technique and treatment area, so if required, follow the medical team's guidance on timing and method. If there is swelling or discomfort, light cold compresses may help.
As Radiesse is also an injectable treatment, vascular complications such as vascular occlusion can occur, although rarely. If pain is severe or progressively worsens after treatment, or if the skin turns white or becomes mottled red or purple, contact the clinic immediately or seek medical care. Blurred vision or visual change after treatment on the face also requires prompt assessment and management.

Frequently asked questions
How is Radiesse different from a dermal filler?
Hyaluronic-acid fillers add volume immediately and are absorbed over time. Radiesse is a collagen booster: its CaHA adds volume right away while also stimulating the skin to produce its own collagen. So you can expect both immediate volume and a longer-term improvement in firmness and texture.
How is Radiesse different from COLLAUM (the Sculptra family)?
PLLA-family products such as COLLAUM focus on gradual collagen production over several weeks rather than immediate volume, whereas Radiesse (CaHA) offers some immediate volume at injection along with later collagen stimulation. Which one suits you depends on your skin condition and goals, so it is decided during consultation.
When do Radiesse results appear, and how long do they last?
Some volume from the CaHA particles can be felt right after injection, and over the following weeks to months collagen forms and changes in firmness and texture settle in. CaHA is generally reported to last a relatively long time, though onset and duration vary widely between individuals.
Is Radiesse painful, and what's the downtime?
It is an injectable treatment; topical numbing can be used for comfort. Downtime is usually about 1 day, though mild redness, swelling, or minor bruising may persist for several days. Pain perception varies between individuals.
How many Radiesse sessions are needed?
A single session can be meaningful on its own, and because collagen is built gradually, a doctor may advise additional sessions depending on progress and skin condition. The exact number and interval are decided during consultation.
