What is Iontophoresis?

IONTO Care is a gentle nourishing treatment that uses a mild microcurrent to help ingredients such as phosphate-type vitamin C derivatives (MAP/SAP) sink into the skin more effectively. It takes about 20 minutes with no downtime, so it fits easily into a busy or travel schedule (results vary by individual).

Who it may be considered for

If you have the following skin concerns, IONTO Care may be considered.

  • The skin tone is dull, or clear and even skin tone care is desired overall
  • Pigmentation such as melasma or blemishes is a concern and skin-tone care is also desired
  • Supportive care for skin tone alongside pigment lasers such as toning is desired
  • Care that delivers hydration and active ingredients to dry, dull skin is needed
  • Skin-condition care with less burden than strongly irritating procedures is preferred
  • The aim is to refine skin texture and complexion without downtime

IONTO Care uses a microcurrent to help deliver active ingredients such as vitamin C into the skin, and can be used to care for dull skin tone and pigmentation so the complexion looks clearer and more even.

The appropriate care method and interval are judged individually by the medical team after assessing the skin's sensitivity and the current degree of pigmentation and dryness.

What happens at the visit

1) Cleanse & prep: After hand sanitizing and cleansing, an ultrasonic skin spatula gently clears surface debris and dead cells.

2) Vitamin ampoule: An ampoule based on phosphate-type vitamin C derivatives (MAP/SAP) is applied to the skin.

3) Iontophoresis: The wand is held in close contact with the skin while a gentle microcurrent helps the actives absorb. Patients gently hold a return electrode (a smooth metal bar that only completes the circuit and does not deliver ingredients) so the gentle current can flow - this is normal, and the level stays mild and adjustable. Patients may feel a cool sensation and a mild tingle.

4) Ionzyme step: An additional nourishing/absorption phase enhances hydration and calming.

5) Yellow LED & modeling mask: The yellow LED step helps soothe and settle the skin, finishing with a soothing rubber (modeling) mask that sets and is peeled off.

Total time is around 20 minutes. A shorter version with fewer steps can also be added as a soothing, nourishing finishing care after lifting or injectable treatments; the steps applied are tailored to the skin and advised at consultation.

Safety and aftercare

If you are using an implantable electronic medical device such as a pacemaker or defibrillator, or have metal implants or piercings in the treatment area, please inform the medical team before treatment so that safety in relation to the use of electrical current can be confirmed. If you have a history of seizures (epilepsy) or are pregnant, please also inform the medical team before treatment and confirm whether the care can be provided. If there is an open wound, active inflammation or infection, or severe skin irritation in the treatment area, it is recommended to avoid that area or to proceed after the skin has fully recovered.

If you have experienced an allergic or hypersensitivity reaction to vitamin C or any other ingredient used in the treatment, please inform the medical team in advance. During treatment, the current or the ingredients used may cause temporary stinging or tingling, and this may be felt more strongly in areas with dense hair such as the beard area. If you feel discomfort, please tell the medical team immediately and the intensity will be adjusted according to the skin condition.

Frequently asked questions

When Will IONTO Care Results Appear — and How Long Do They Last?

Right after the session, skin often looks smoother, plumped with moisture, and visibly fresher, with makeup applying more evenly. Tone refinement and pigment-related care from vitamin C delivery build gradually with repeated sessions rather than from a single visit, so periodic treatment helps maintain skin condition. Setting the interval to match the skin condition seen on diagnosis, and keeping up basic home care such as moisturizing and sun protection between visits, helps maintain a settled complexion. The ideal interval and number of sessions depend on the skin and will be advised during consultation. The degree and duration of results vary from person to person.

Does IONTO Care hurt, or do I need anesthesia?

No anesthesia is needed. Most people feel a cool sensation from the ampoule and a mild tingle from the current. If it feels uncomfortable, the intensity can be lowered or the electrode wrapped with cotton.

Is there any downtime after IONTO Care?

There is no downtime - patients can return to daily activities and apply makeup right after. The full session takes around 20 minutes.

How often is IONTO Care recommended?

It is a cumulative care, so periodic, repeated sessions help maintain results. The ideal interval and number of sessions depend on the skin condition seen at diagnosis and will be advised at consultation.

Can IONTO Care be combined with other treatments?

Yes - it pairs with pigment/toning laser sessions for a nourishing absorption step, and a shorter version can be added as a finishing care after lifting or injectable treatments. Combinations are decided at consultation.
