What is Hip Sculptra?

Hip Sculptra is a body collagen booster that applies a collagen-stimulating PLLA injectable to the hip area. Rather than 'filling in' a flat hip the way a filler does, it prompts the body to make its own new collagen, so hip volume, firmness and a smoother contour build up gradually over several months from within. It suits people who prefer a natural change that fills in with 'their own collagen' over an instant result. Much like adding fertilizer to a garden bed and watching the plants grow on their own over time, Hip Sculptra places an unseen support within the hip so the body fills in its own volume and firmness. The PLLA that acts as scaffolding is gradually absorbed, and what remains is the skin's own collagen.

Who it may be considered for

Hip Sculptra may be considered in the following situations.

  • The hips lack volume or firmness and the overall contour feels flat
  • A hip dip on the outer side of the hips makes the hip line look uneven
  • The aim is to naturally supplement differences in volume or contour between the left and right hips
  • Cellulite or an uneven skin surface texture and firmness are also to be improved
  • Rather than filling volume all at once as with fillers, natural, gradual change through collagen production is desired

The medical team judges suitability and the treatment extent and volume individually after assessing hip shape and the degree of volume loss, hip dips, skin firmness, and cellulite. Treatment may be restricted during pregnancy or breastfeeding, when there is active infection, inflammation, or an open wound at the injection site, or when there is a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring. Please also inform the medical team before treatment if you have a bleeding disorder or are taking anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, or other medication that can affect bleeding.

What happens at the visit

1) Consultation & assessment: the doctor reviews the hip's condition (volume, firmness, hollowing, cellulite) and medical history (pregnancy, medications, keloid tendency and other contraindications), then plans the injection coverage and dose (based on the 6-vial / 96cc set).

2) Preparation & numbing: the area is cleansed, and topical anesthetic may be applied for comfort.

3) Injection: PLLA is distributed evenly into the appropriate hip layer via a fine needle (or cannula) across multiple points (injecting across several points helps the product distribute evenly for a natural-looking fill).

4) Finishing: the treated area is cleaned, soothing care may be applied, and aftercare — including massage and home-care guidance — is given on departure. Actual injection takes about 40 minutes, and depending on the doctor's assessment a short course of medication may be prescribed as a precaution. It is performed per session, and series structure is explained during consultation.

Safety and aftercare

Hip Sculptra is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Treatment may be restricted if you have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring, or an allergy or hypersensitivity to the components of Sculptra. If there is active infection, inflammation, or an open wound in the treatment area, treatment must be performed only after full recovery. Please also inform the medical team before treatment if you have a bleeding disorder or are taking anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, or other medication that can affect bleeding.

After treatment, redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, or temporary firmness may occur, and in most cases these gradually settle over time. As the hips are treated over a wide area, swelling or tenderness may initially make sitting or moving feel more uncomfortable than usual.

Rarely, papules or nodules (palpable lumps) may develop at the injection sites, and these may appear some time after treatment. So that the product is distributed evenly, gently massage after treatment according to the method indicated by the medical team; the "5-5-5" massage — 5 times a day, 5 minutes each time, for 5 days — is generally recommended. Follow the medical team's guidance on the specific method and duration.

Sculptra is not a treatment that creates immediate volume; change appears gradually through collagen production. If pain or swelling persists or progressively worsens, if skin colour changes, or if new or long-lasting nodules or other unusual symptoms appear, medical assessment is required.

Frequently asked questions

How is Hip Sculptra different from hip filler?

A hyaluronic-acid hip filler adds volume instantly. Hip Sculptra is a collagen booster: PLLA stimulates the skin so the body forms its own collagen, so the change appears gradually over several months rather than at once — closer to filling in with your own collagen than to being plumped up.

When will results appear?

With PLLA, the temporary volume seen right after the session settles within a few days; the change in hip volume and firmness then builds over several months as collagen forms. Onset varies considerably between individuals. On a short trip, patients may return home before the change is visible — this is normal with PLLA.

Is it painful, and what's the downtime?

It is an injectable treatment; topical numbing can be used for comfort. Downtime is usually about 1–2 days, though mild redness, swelling or minor bruising may persist for several days. Because of the hip location, prolonged sitting may be uncomfortable for a few days, and the team will advise on care.

How many sessions are needed?

Because collagen is built gradually, a typical protocol is about 3–4 sessions spaced roughly 4–6 weeks apart. The exact number, spacing and dose are decided through consultation based on the hip's condition, and collagen-based change is generally reported to last around two years, with considerable individual variation.

Does REPIC use genuine product?

REPIC uses genuine PLLA product in measured doses, and the product and amount (based on the 6-vial / 96cc set) are explained during the pre-treatment consultation.
