What is Body Ulthera?

Body Ulthera is a non-invasive body-lifting treatment that uses high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) energy to reach the deep layers of the skin (including the SMAS fascia), helping to lift and firm loose, sagging body skin from within — without any cutting. It is the body version of facial Ultherapy, used to care for the elasticity of sagging skin on areas such as the abdomen, arms and inner thighs. It is care for skin firmness, not a weight-loss treatment. Like a magnifying glass focusing sunlight to a single point, it concentrates ultrasound energy not on the surface but at one spot in the deep layers, stimulating only that depth to lift slackened skin from within.

Who it may be considered for

Body Ulthera may be considered in the following situations.

  • Areas where the skin has become loose or lost firmness, such as the abdomen, upper arms, or inner thighs, are a concern
  • After childbirth, weight change, or ageing, the body skin feels looser and more sagging than before
  • The aim is to focus on skin firmness and tightening rather than fat reduction
  • Gradual improvement in firmness by a non-invasive method without incisions or injections is desired
  • A body firmness treatment with little recovery burden is desired

Body Ulthera is a non-invasive treatment that delivers focused ultrasound energy to the desired depth beneath the skin to induce collagen regeneration, improving the firmness and tightening of loose skin. Rather than reducing weight itself or removing fat directly, it focuses on improving loss of skin firmness and sagging so that the body line looks firmer.

The medical team determines suitability and the treatment areas, depth, energy, and number of shots individually after assessing skin thickness, the degree of firmness loss, and fat distribution in the treatment area.

Treatment is restricted during pregnancy or when pregnancy is possible. Treatment may also be difficult if there is active infection, inflammation, or an open wound in the treatment area, or if there are metal implants. If you have a history of previous aesthetic procedures or surgery such as fillers, lifting threads, or implants, please inform us of the treatment area and timing in advance; eligibility is judged after confirming the location and condition.

What happens at the visit

1) Consultation: the doctor reviews the skin and area condition and medical history (possible pregnancy, implanted medical devices, metal implants, prior cosmetic materials, medications, etc.), then plans the treatment area (abdomen, arms, inner thighs, etc.), the shot count and the treatment depth individually.

2) Preparation: the area is prepped, guide markings for ultrasound delivery are drawn, and gel is applied; for comfort, topical anesthesia or similar may also be used at the doctor's discretion.

3) Treatment: the ultrasound transducer delivers energy in points along the planned lines; a brief prickling or deep, heavy warmth may be felt as heat concentrates in the deeper layers (the delivery depth and shot count are planned by the doctor according to the area and extent).

4) If pain or heat feels excessive during treatment, informing the doctor immediately lets the output be adjusted.

5) Finishing: the gel is wiped off and a soothing care step finishes the session, with aftercare guidance given for home care.

Depending on the area and shot count, one area takes about 30 minutes; treating several areas or higher shot counts together can take longer. It is usually performed in a single session, though an additional series may be advised depending on the area and condition.

Safety and aftercare

Body Ulthera is not recommended during pregnancy or when pregnancy is possible. Treatment may be restricted if there are metal implants in the treatment area, or active infection, inflammation, an open wound, or severe skin disease. If you have a history of previous aesthetic procedures or surgery such as fillers, lifting threads, or implants, please inform the medical team of the treatment area and timing in advance; eligibility is judged after confirming the location and condition.

During treatment, as the ultrasound energy is delivered, momentary stinging, warmth, or a deep aching pain may be felt; if the discomfort is severe, please tell the medical team so the intensity can be adjusted. After treatment, temporary redness, warmth, mild swelling, tenderness, or aching may occur, and in most cases these settle naturally within a few days. Depending on the treatment area and energy, temporary changes in sensation — such as tenderness on pressure or sensation that feels different from usual — may occur, and these generally recover over time.

If pain or swelling worsens or persists for a long time after treatment, if skin changes such as blisters or burns appear, or if altered sensation or discomfort persists, medical assessment is required. The medical team determines suitability and the treatment areas, energy, and number of shots after assessing your fat distribution and skin thickness and firmness.

Frequently asked questions

Is Body Ulthera a weight-loss treatment?

No — Body Ulthera is not for losing weight or removing fat; it is a lifting and firmness treatment that cares for the elasticity of loose, sagging body skin on areas such as the abdomen, arms and inner thighs. It focuses ultrasound into the deep layers to contract and renew collagen, so it is used to care for slackened skin firmness rather than for overall weight loss. Pairing it with a balanced diet and exercise may help support the results.

How is Body Ulthera different from facial Ultherapy?

The working principle (high-intensity focused ultrasound, HIFU) is the same, but the area treated differs. Facial Ultherapy focuses on lifting the facial SMAS fascia, while Body Ulthera applies the same principle to loose, sagging body areas such as the abdomen, arms and inner thighs. Because it treats wider areas, the coverage, shot count and session time are planned differently from the face.

How is it different from Thermage or ONDA?

Ulthera's defining feature is that it concentrates ultrasound into points that reach deeper layers, including the SMAS fascia. Radiofrequency (Thermage-type) heats the dermis across a broad area, and ONDA uses microwave energy that acts into the subcutaneous fat layer — so each device differs in its energy type and the layer it works on. Which device suits you is decided through consultation based on the area condition.

How is the shot count determined? What about the price?

The shot count is the number of times energy is delivered, decided by the size and condition of the treatment area. Larger areas need more shots, so it is planned as 100, 300, 600 or 900 shots, and additional shots can be added in units of 100 beyond a base of 100. The exact shot count and area are decided through consultation with the doctor; the price varies by shot count and is exclusive of VAT.

Does Body Ulthera hurt? Is anesthesia needed?

A brief prickling or deep, heavy warmth may be felt as heat concentrates in the deeper layers, so topical anesthesia or similar may be used at the doctor's discretion for comfort. If pain or heat feels excessive during treatment, the output is adjusted right away when you say so. The sensation varies by area and between individuals.
