What is Hyperhidrosis Botox?

Hyperhidrosis Botox injects botulinum toxin into areas that sweat excessively (most often the underarms) to reduce heavy sweating and the odor that comes with it, helping the day feel more comfortable. It briefly turns down the 'volume' of the nerve signal reaching the sweat glands, easing the worry of soaked clothes and sweat marks. The session takes about 20 minutes with almost no downtime, so patients can return to the day right away. It's a bit like briefly turning down the volume of the 'sweat now' signal sent to the sweat glands. While the signal is quieter, the area stays less damp, helping keep it drier and more comfortable.

Who it may be considered for

Hyperhidrosis Botox may be considered in the following situations.

  • Underarm sweating is heavy, clothes get wet frequently, or sweat marks are a concern
  • Excessive sweating in hot environments or tense situations causes inconvenience in daily life
  • General measures such as topical antiperspirants have not brought sufficient improvement
  • Excessive sweating in specific areas such as the palms or soles causes discomfort
  • The aim is to reduce sweating ahead of a season of heavy perspiration or an important occasion

The medical team judges suitability individually after assessing the areas and degree of sweating and the extent of inconvenience in daily life.

Treatment may be restricted during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in the case of neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, or when there is active infection in the treatment area. Please inform the medical team before treatment if you have a history of allergy or hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin or anaesthetic ingredients, or are using related medication such as anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, or aminoglycoside antibiotics.

What happens at the visit

1) Consultation & assessment: the doctor reviews the sweating area and its degree along with the medical history (pregnancy, medications, allergies, prior procedures), and decides the treatment area and dose (100 units as the reference) and the toxin used (domestic, or Coretox/Xeomin/Allergan).

2) Topical anesthesia (where applicable): for areas where discomfort may be felt, such as the underarms, numbing cream may be applied or a cooling step used to reduce sensation.

3) Injection: using a fine needle, the product is distributed evenly in small, measured amounts into the shallow layer of the skin.

4) Finish: after a light tidy-up the session ends, and aftercare guidance is given for home care. Actual treatment time is about 20 minutes, and patients can go home and resume daily activity right away.

Safety and aftercare

Treatment may be restricted during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in the case of neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, or when there is active infection in the treatment area. If you have experienced an allergic or hypersensitivity reaction to botulinum toxin or anaesthetic ingredients, or are taking anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, or other medication that can affect bleeding, please inform the medical team before treatment. Please also be sure to inform us if you are using medication that can affect neuromuscular transmission, such as aminoglycoside antibiotics.

Immediately after treatment, redness, swelling, stinging, or bruising may appear at the injection sites, and in most cases these gradually settle over time. When treatment is performed on the palms, temporary reduction in hand strength or discomfort may occur, and pain and treatment response for the hands and feet may differ from the underarms.

Frequently asked questions

When do results show, and how long do they last?

They typically begin around two to four days after treatment and reach their fuller effect around one to two weeks, with individual variation, and generally last around 4 to 6 months. Once the effect fades, whether to repeat the treatment can be discussed with the doctor at the visit if you would like to maintain it.

Does it also reduce sweat odor?

As sweat decreases, the odor that forms when sweat meets skin bacteria tends to ease as well. That said, the cause and degree of odor vary from person to person, so the degree of effect can differ between individuals.

Does it hurt? Is there anesthesia?

The product is delivered in small amounts with a fine needle, and for areas where discomfort may be felt, such as the underarms, numbing cream or a cooling step may be used to reduce sensation. Pain perception varies between individuals.

Can normal activities be resumed right after treatment?

Yes — there is virtually no downtime, so patients can go home and resume daily activity right away. Just avoid activities that produce heavy sweat and heat, such as intense exercise and saunas, as well as alcohol on treatment day.

Which areas can be treated? What about hands and feet?

The commonly treated area at REPIC is the underarms. Other areas such as the hands and feet differ in their characteristics, pain, results and duration, so suitability is determined through consultation.
