What is Ulthera?
Ulthera (also known as Ultherapy) is a non-invasive HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) skin lifting treatment that focuses ultrasound energy into the deeper structural layers of the skin — no incisions, no needles. As the skin renews micro-coagulation points, collagen remodeling is triggered, supporting improved firmness and a more lifted appearance over time. Minimal downtime makes it easy to fit into a busy schedule. Like reinforcing a building's deep support structure from the inside, it firms the internal framework (the SMAS) without touching the outer walls.
Who it may be considered for
Ulthera may be considered in the following situations.
- Loss of firmness or sagging of the face, such as the jawline, cheeks, or eye area, is a concern
- The aim is to refine the facial contour together with skin firmness
- A non-invasive lifting and tightening treatment without surgery or injections is preferred
- A treatment with relatively little recovery burden is preferred
- A method that confirms tissue depth using ultrasound imaging during treatment is preferred
With Ulthera, the treatment area and depth can be adjusted according to the individual's facial structure and skin and soft-tissue condition. Beyond general lifting, application may also be considered through medical consultation for specific concerns such as the following.
- Differences between the left and right facial contour or brow height are a concern
- The aim is to refine the volume or contour of the cheekbone and cheek area
What happens at the visit
1. Consultation & Assessment: Skin firmness and target areas are evaluated — when helpful, a skin-diagnostic device is used to review skin condition and identify the underlying cause — followed by planning of transducer depth and shot count based on treatment goals.
2. Preparation: The area is cleansed and guide lines are marked. Whether topical anesthesia is used depends on the area and individual sensitivity, decided during consultation.
3. Treatment: Using DeepSEE real-time ultrasound imaging, the target layer is confirmed on screen before energy is delivered point by point. To avoid unwanted changes such as a hollowed side-cheek, the appropriate handpiece (tip) is selected to match each area and depth, with careful attention to individual design and left-right balance throughout.
4. Finish: Soothing post-treatment care is applied and daily activities can be resumed immediately.
Safety and aftercare
Treatment may be restricted if there is active skin disease, infection, inflammation, or an open wound in the treatment area, or during pregnancy. Please also inform the medical team before treatment if there are metallic implants in or adjacent to the treatment area, or an underlying condition that could affect safety. If there is a history of previous aesthetic procedures such as fillers or thread lifting in or adjacent to the treatment area, please also let us know in advance, as the timing, location, and treatment depth need to be taken into account.
Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, an aching sensation, or bruising may occur after treatment, and in most cases these settle over time. Rarely, temporary numbness, altered sensation, or changes in muscle strength due to nerve stimulation may occur. If such symptoms persist or worsen, please contact the clinic.
Whether treatment can be performed and how it is applied may differ according to the individual's health status, previous treatment history, and treatment area, and is determined after medical consultation.

Frequently asked questions
When Will Ulthera Results Appear — and How Long Do They Last?
Immediately after Ultherapy treatment, mild tightening may be noticeable from initial collagen contraction. Visible improvements then develop gradually over several weeks to a few months as collagen remodeling progresses — not overnight. The duration of Ultherapy results, and whether a repeat session is needed, depends on skin condition, age, and lifestyle. Periodic maintenance treatments are an option for sustaining outcomes over time. To support results during the collagen renewal phase, daily moisturizing and sun protection are recommended, and a personalized home-care routine can be discussed with the doctor at consultation. Results vary between individuals.
How is the Ulthera treatment area and coverage decided?
Ulthera can address a single contour area — such as the under-eye area or jawline — or cover a broader zone. Depth and coverage are planned individually with the doctor based on the target area and skin condition. For those new to HIFU, starting with a focused, smaller-scope session is also an option.
Does Ulthera hurt?
A deep, warm, dull, or briefly prickling sensation may be felt as energy reaches the deeper skin layers, and this can be more noticeable near bony areas such as the jawline or forehead. Most patients find it tolerable, and discomfort typically subsides as the session ends. Topical anesthesia is available and can be adjusted based on individual sensitivity during consultation.
Is there downtime after Ultherapy? Can makeup be worn the same day?
Ulthera is a non-incisional treatment with minimal downtime, allowing most patients to resume daily activities immediately. Light makeup can generally be applied the same day, though this varies by individual. Mild, temporary redness or swelling may occur; moisturizing and sun protection are recommended.
Is the Ulthera device at REPIC Clinic genuine and FDA-cleared?
REPIC uses the genuine Merz Aesthetics Ulthera system with authentic transducers. Ulthera/Ultherapy is an FDA-cleared device. Each transducer has a set number of valid shots, with the remaining count displayed on screen — verifiable before treatment begins.
